Product of the month in October: piccolo trumpet

The high B♭/A trumpet is our range topper when it comes to trumpets. As the highest-pitched type of trumpet, it’s expected to meet the highest demands for a brilliant tone, precise intonation and comfortable response – a feat we think we have achieved once more with this instrument. Depending on the choice of leadpipe and bell, a great variety of tonal preferences are covered.

The trumpet is equipped with a bell hammered and bent by hand as well as B♭ and A pipes including valve slide conversion rings for tuning in A. Another feature on our model is the water key, while a trigger, pressure relief vent and detachable bell are optional.

As with all of our instruments, various combinations are possible, and all of them can be tried out before an order is placed. For example, a tight or medium bell is available, so are two leadpipes of different bores and materials, one for each pitch version. Also, there is a selection of valve assemblies from different manufacturers.

Product of the month in September: used tubas

This month, we’d like to show you some of our used tubas currently on sale on consignment.

A compact Cerveny Arion B♭ tuba is waiting for a buyer. The instrument is in full playing order, sports four valves and Minibal joints and comes lacquered and slightly dented. The asking price of €2,600 makes this tuba excellent value and includes quite a bit of equipment as well: a leather hand guard and both a gig bag and a durable wooden case with rollers.

Another bargain comes in the form of a four-valve, large-bore B♭ tuba, also made by Cerveny. Its fully functional mechanics feature steel ball joints, and an adjustable thumb ring is provided. The instrument comes lacquered and slightly dented. The asking price of €4,000 includes the tuba as well as a gig bag and plastic case. As options, we offer dent removal and conversion to Minibal joints.

Also in store: a Migma B♭ tuba. This is a beautifully slender tuba with four valves. Its mechanics feature S-shaped pushrods with steel screws. Just like the other tubas, this one is fully ready to play, lacquered and slightly dented. This instrument is a very reasonably priced option at €1,400. A mouthpiece, gig bag and Velcro hand guards are included.

Product of the month in February: complete overhaul

Dear Customers,

This month, we’d like to direct your attention to our overhaul service. Yes, it is possible to return your instrument to as-new condition! This involves not just reconditioning the valves but also smoothing out the surface and adding lacquer or another finish as desired. Beforehand, we’ll discuss with you in depth what your instrument needs, help you determine if a complete overhaul is a good investment in your case and talk price. Once we have your go-ahead, we’ll get started. If necessary, the surface will be stripped of lacquer, then the valves tightened and lapped and the instrument’s inside cleaned. We’ll remove any dents and scratches and, if necessary, unsolder the instrument to access parts that are difficult to get to. Everything that can’t be repaired will be replaced. Corroded parts will either be replaced or we’ll add a guard to them. Once the instrument is whole again, we’ll polish it and add a lacquer finish, silver plating, brushed finish etc., as desired – an upgrade that will extend your instrument’s life. If you wish, we can take pictures documenting the repairs.

We’re happy to give you advice and answer all your questions regarding this service.

Product of the month in September: trombone slide lubricant

Dear customers,

This month, we‘d like to direct your attention to our broad selection of trombone slide lubricants. We carry a broad range to take into the account the fact that each trombone slide is different and has its own requirements for lubricants, according to its construction and age. For example, Trombotine, a light grease, is still a go-to for older slides with a damaged chrome coating or no chrome coating at all. On new and well-maintained slides, Yamaha Trombone Slide Lubricant works very nicely. For the average slide, we have popular lubricants like Slide-o-Mix, Slide-o-Mix Rapid Comfort, Reka Superslide as well as La Tromba Slide Oil P3 on offer. We also recommend a small spray bottle of Slide-o-Mix for spraying water on the slide after greasing, a great accessory to carry in your instrument case. The important thing to remember is not to mix different lubricants as this might lead to clumps. That’s why you should wipe the inside and outside of a slide thoroughly, or have it professionally cleaned, before applying a new type of lubricant. We’re happy to give you advice on choosing the right lubricant for your trombone slide.
